Prison Book Programs have been operating successfully in America for many years. Wondering what a Prison Book Program does? Watch the videos below which show how books make a difference to the lives of prisoners and help to create a safer community by helping prisoners lead crime free lives on release.
Update: We have just sent off our first shipment of books to a prison!

The Australian Prison Foundations major national campaign for 2009 focuses on prisoner library services. The foundation will be producing posters and brochures for both prisoners and corrections staff on the importance of reading skills and access to library services. Information brochures for prisoners will focus on promoting libraries as a great place to relax and enjoy life, a place to learn and access new skills, and a way to keep in touch with the ‘outside’ and family through library services. Information brochures for corrections staff will focus on why prisoner literacy is so important to gaining employment and learning new life skills, how to help and encourage prisoners to access the library and supporting personal learning and growth through library services. The posters and brochures will be distributed within prisons and prisoner support organisations around Australia, as well as through our website.
We would like to thank everyone for their entries and involvement. We look forward to delivering posters to prisons thoughout Australia later this year.
